After going 9-3
and 8-4 the past two weeks, Week 10 was definitely a bump in the road for my
predictions, going 5-8. However in my defense, how many people really predicted
the last two winless teams to notch their first wins of the season? Also no way
anybody saw the Rams demolishing the Colts. But that is why the NFL is so much
fun, you just never really know. Now for the headlines!
Disappointing Teams:
Coming off of
last years playoffs, there were some key veteran additions made to the already
playoff-caliber squads in Houston and Atlanta. For the Falcons, the addition of
Steven Jackson was going to make the offense unstoppable along with the star
wideouts in Julio Jones and Roddy White and returning tight end Tony Gonzalez.
Instead each of those three players has had trouble staying on the field, with
Jones being out for the year. They have a 2-7 record with their two wins coming
against the Rams and the Bucs. Not good.
In Houston, the
Texans got torched in their playoff defeat to Tom Brady and the Patriots so
went and acquired the guy who beat Brady in the next round in Ed Reed. It was a
disaster from the start. Ed Reed could not get healthy in time for the season
and then when he was on the field he either was not fully recovered or Father
Time had finally caught up to him because his performance was lacking. The
icing on the cake for his Texans stint was calling out the coaches and scheme
after a frustrating loss to the Cardinals, in which he only played 13 snaps
because of the coaches deciding to bench him. He was released 2 days later.
Potential landing spots include the Jets, Patriots, and Cowboys.
Incognito-Martin Situation:
If you asked who
was tired of hearing of this situation, I would probably be the first to raise
my hand. However, the impact of this situation can’t be diminished. I don’t
think it proved to be too much of a distraction for the players but what people
failed to realize is that they were 2 of the Dolphins 5 starting offensive
lineman. Without them this week, the Dolphins ran for a grand total of 2 yards,
the lowest in franchise history and the 5th lowest all-time.
Dallas Debacle:
If their was one
positive for the fans that came from Sunday night’s thumping by the New Orleans
Saints, it was that the Cowboys didn’t break your heart. They just let you know
they never had a chance. Dallas started the game running Demarco Murray and
running well, grabbing an early lead. Throughout the game, the offense just
struggled and didn’t even get to 200 yards of offense even though they were
trailing big-time. The Cowboys offense was so bad, they couldn’t even get
garbage time yardage. Part of that has to do with Dez Bryant only being
targeted two times in the whole game. Yes, he is a great receiver but other
teams have great receivers yet still manage to feed them the ball through a
double team by using them all over the field. Just ask Dallas (cough cough
Calvin Johnson). An offense that ran strong to start the game, ended the game
with Romo just falling on the ground taking sacks. Things have to change in
Dallas. And before it gets to Monte Kiffin or Bill Calahan or Jason Garrett,
the wrath has to start with the General Manager.
