Week 6 Recap and Mid-week Story-lines

Week 6 Recap and Mid-week Story-lines

After my first week of predictions, I ended up 9-5 in my picks. Not too shabby. One of those 5 I was very pleased with (I picked the Patriots to lose) and pretty proud of my upset pick coming true (Steelers over Jets). I also predicted TJ Yates coming in for Houston, although now in that fashion (more on that below) and not that outcome. Just goes to show though, the NFL can be unpredictable at times. After all, that’s what makes it even more fun to watch!

Mid-week Storylines

New England Patriots LOSE big time, in epic win:
Tom Brady’s greatness was well documented before Sunday’s game but he decided to go ahead and add another amazing chapter to his storied career. Pretty sure everybody has already heard about Brady taking his team 70 yards in a minute and 8 seconds and throwing a perfect pass to undrafted free agent Kenbrell Thompkins for the winning touchdown. Also on that drive Brady completed a perfect pass to Julian Edelman as well as two passes to Austin Collie, who was signed by the Patriots TEN days prior to the game. Brady was of course far from perfect, missing open receivers and had a very inaccurate day but came up big when it matter most.
Now lets talk about what isn’t widely talked about. The Patriots lost the heart of their defense as Middle Linebacker aka Quarterback of the Defense Jerod Mayo has been placed on IR with a season ending Pectoral injury. This is after the Patriots already are without the big rock in the middle, Vince Wilfork for the season. In addition to that Aqib Talib (hip) exited the game as well as Danny Amendola (head), and Dan Connely (head).
To break down the Patriots injuries, consider this: There are levels on every side of the ball. Defensively you have the Defensive Line, Linebackers, and Secondary. Offensively, you have the Quarterback, running back, wide receiver, tight end, and offensive line. Special teams you have the returners and the tacklers. On the defensive line, they are without Vince Wilfork, their best. At linebacker they are without their best, Jerod Mayo. In the secondary they are without their best, Aqib Talib. At Wide receiver they are without their best, Danny Amendola. At running back they are without their most versatile, Shane Vereen. On the offensive line they are without a starter, Dan Connely. At tight end they are without their best, Rob Gronkowski. They are also without their best returner in Leon Washington and without Special teams captain and leading tackler, Matthew Slater. That is insane. The only position they are at their best right now is quarterback (knock on wood). And they are 5-1. They are still winning games….For now.

Fan Problems:
So with two minutes left in the game and their team down by 4, the home team is packing up and hitting the road early to avoid traffic. The quarterback must be Tony Romo right? Brandon Weeden? Mark Sanchez? No, the quarterback is Tom Brady. You spoiled Patriots fans should be ashamed of yourselves.
Houston Texan fans should be banned from going to home games. How disrespectful is it to be cheering your own quarterback’s injury? VERY. It is unbelievable and unacceptable. Yes, matt Schuab was on a historically bad stretch in his career and booing him, fine that makes perfect sense. Cheering the fact that he is hurt? Absolutely unacceptable. And this comes AFTER a fan confronted him at his home. That is disgusting. And just saying, his backup came in and threw a touchdown….to the OTHER TEAM. So there you go Houston fans.

Cowboys lose in win:
The cowboys won a big primetime game Sunday night against a divisional opponent but at a great cost. Demarcus Ware is done for 4-6 weeks. Demarco Murray is out for some time, not known exactly. Led me to think though, is it in the name? DEMARCus Ware. DEMARCo Murray.. Hmmmm.

Packers lose in win:
Another team that pays a very heavy price for a regular season win. Aaron Rodgers loses two of his top three receivers for some time in Randall Cobb and James Jones. Fantasy owners: Start Jordy Nelson and JerMichael Finely, Rodgers should look to them a lot!

 Irsay Comments on Peyton:
Now for some media drama! Jim Irsay, the owner of the Colts, blasted Peyton Manning while stating the facts. Yeah, maybe he is a little upset at having only one ring to show for after having the third best quarterback (in my estimation, check previous blog) in NFL history. Yes, it’s a fact after 11 times being in the playoffs, Peyton has been one and done most of the times but that is just not something you say after Peyton is the one who made you relevant and Peyton made you a whole lot of money. Oh and is Jim ignorant to the fact is coming back to the house that he himself built this week? Jim Irsay must really have a lack of respect for Peyton to be fueling him with even more motivation. I’m looking for Peyton to go berserk Sunday night. Jim Irsay, you will regret.
** Just a side note, definitely a good long term move by Irsay to let go of Manning and get the once-in-a-generation quarterback Andrew Luck but the timing was horrible.**
